South Dakota State University’s Tanner Cook and Henry Pohlmeyer were honored Thursday as Division I Scholar All-Americans by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.
Both wrestlers qualified for the 2020 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships and have compiled a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 during their collegiate careers.
Pohlmeyer completed his Jackrabbit career this past winter by compiling a 22-5 overall record in the 149-pound division in earning a trip to the nationals for the third time with a runner-up finish at the Big 12 Wrestling Championship. The Johnston, Iowa, native has majored in political science at SDSU.
Cook moved into the starting lineup at 165 pounds at semester break and turned in a strong first season with the Jackrabbits by posting a 21-4 record with a team-best 14 wins by fall. A freshman from Ilion, New York, Cook is majoring in marketing and communication.
In all, 175 Division I wrestlers from 63 institutions were honored as members of the 2019-20 Scholar All-American Team.
