For the third straight year, North Dakota State University distance runner Elliott Stone has been named to the Academic All-District 6 team for Division I men’s track & field and cross country, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Friday.
Stone advances to the national ballot for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, to be announced in late June. He was recognized as a first-team Academic All-American in each of the past two years.
Stone (Bismarck, N.D.) earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with a 4.0 cumulative GPA and now owns a 4.0 pursuing a master’s in business administration. He ranks fourth in NDSU history in both the indoor 3,000m and outdoor 5,000m.
Stone was also named the 2018-19 Summit League Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year across all sports. An eight-time Summit League Academic All-League honoree, he is a member of the NDSU engineering and computer science team that has competed at NASA’s Robotic Mining Competition.
District 6 is comprised of student-athletes from Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
As a team, the Bison men posted a 3.40 GPA for the Spring 2020 semester, with 11 athletes recording a 4.0 semester GPA.
