City and state leaders were expecting about half the usual turn out for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally to stay home this year, but official traffic count numbers for the first weekend show that’s not the case. In fact, the tally for opening weekend this year is down just 3.8 percent from last year. The three-day total for Friday, Saturday and Sunday this year was 160,877. That’s just about 6,500 less than last year or a drop of 3.8 percent. The numbers come from traffic counts at nine locations entering Sturgis for the rally.
