(Pierre, SD) — Governor Kristi Noem is proposing an expansive budget for South Dakota in 2021. Noem presented her budget yesterday in an address to lawmakers. The governor is proposing spending to complete work on the state’s broadband service, increases in state aid to education, and a 50-million-dollar investment in a trust fund to hedge against future economic hardships. Noem also says the state should sell two of the state’s older planes and spend five-million to buy a new airplane. She says the government ended the 2020 budget year with a 19-million-dollar surplus.
