(Pierre, SD) — The first phase of South Dakota COVID-19 vaccinations are underway. Frontline healthcare workers began receiving vaccinations earlier this week at Avera, Sanford, and Monument Health. Frontline workers in more rural areas will begin getting vaccinated next week. The next group to receive the vaccine will be other healthcare workers, first responders, law enforcement, and correctional officers. Healthcare providers will then move forward with vaccinating those who are most vulnerable, such as people with underlying health conditions, those over 65, those living in group homes, teachers and college staff, and funeral directors.
