(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem says she won’t run in a primary against one of the state’s Republican senators. She announced that in a tweet Tuesday night, saying she’ll run again for governor in 2022. Senator John Thune is up for re-election that same year, but President Trump is encouraging somebody to run against him. Trump tweeted yesterday, “He will be primaried in 2022, political career over!!!” Trump’s tweet follows Thune’s dismissal of a challenge to the Electoral College results. Thune said the effort “would go down like a shot dog” in the Senate.
