North Dakota Oil: Pretty Terrible Year

(Bismarck, ND) — North Dakota’s oil industry faced a ‘pretty terrible year’ in 2020. That’s what State Mineral Resources Director Lynn Helms said recently after a year of oil companies filing for bankruptcy and oil workers losing jobs. In Williams County, the unemployment rate is still 12-percent nine months after the pandemic started. Helms says this isn’t the worst downturn he’s seen in his 40 years, but he does expect it to take more than a year to get things back on track.
