State Parks In Hills Saw Rise In Visitors In 2020

(Rapid City, SD) — Officials say state parks saw an increase in visitors throughout 2020. According to data released over the weekend, despite the total number of tourists in the Black Hills falling by around 15 percent, state park visitation was up by 31 percent compared to 2019. Mount Rushmore reported an estimated 80-thousand more people at the monument in 2020 than in 2019 thanks to a fireworks display and a visit by President Trump. State park officials said the pandemic had people taking advantage of safe hiking trails where it was easier to practice social distancing.
