Former US Senator Pressler In Cancer Fight At Johns Hopkins

(Sioux Falls, SD) — The family of former South Dakota U.S. Congressman and Senator Larry Pressler say he is battling pancreatic cancer. Doctors confirmed yesterday that the 78-year-old former lawmaker was diagnosed last November and has spent most of the past two months being treated at the Johns Hopkins Cancer Center in Baltimore. A native of Humboldt, Pressler won a bronze star during the Vietnam War and then represented South Dakota as a U.S. Congressman for four-years before being elected to the Senate, where he served from 1979 until 1997. Pressler says if his health improves, he plans to move back to South Dakota and work on raising awareness for cancer research.
