(Bismarck, ND) — A set of energy bills are targeting polluters and contamination while allowing underground gas storage. A Senate bill would allow the state to penalize corporate officers considered responsible for oil and gas-related violations. Regulators are also asking lawmakers to allow the underground storage of natural gas, natural gas liquids, and oil. Another Senate bill intends to make plans for cleaning up contamination. It would prompt companies to clean up contamination they create, provide money for state cleanup when no responsible company is identified, and offer liability relief to investors and developers wanting to repurpose contaminated sites.
