“Windy Fire” Near Lemmon Contained, Cause Under Investigation

(Lemmon, SD) — Fire officials in North and South Dakota say the Windy Fire near Lemmon and the border with Adams County is now 100 percent contained. Lemmon Fire Marshal Shane Penfield confirmed yesterday that firefighters had monitored the area after putting out the last hot spots on Saturday. Two firefighters were injured fighting the blaze, estimated to have burned an area of almost 20-thousand acres nearly 21-miles long and four-miles wide. The Adams County Sheriff’s Office and the North Dakota Fire Marshal are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
