Attorneys from 25 states sued the Environmental Protection Agency last week to block rules intended to reduce emissions from cars and light trucks and encourage electric vehicle manufacturing.
The group of attorneys general says the agency exceeded its authority. The lawsuit is challenging the regulations for passenger vehicles, finalized on March 20 by the Biden administration. The group of states was led in the filing by Kentucky and West Virginia. Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman says the rules would harm the American economy, threaten jobs, and raise prices while undermining the U.S. electrical grid. Coleman also says there is very little interest in electric vehicles in his state.
“The administration is willing to sacrifice the American auto industry and its workers in service of its radical green agenda,” Coleman says. “We aren’t buying it.”
EPA chief Michael Regan says the rule imposes “absolutely no mandate” on manufacturers to adopt electric vehicles.
