Attempted Abortions Bill Moves Forward In LXR

(Pierre, SD) — A bill that would require several sets of records related to attempted abortions is moving forward. The House Health and Human Services Committee endorsed legislation yesterday that would require abortion facilities and physicians in the state to report how many infants survive attempted abortions, what is done to keep them alive, and the results of those efforts. The proposal also calls for a 100-thousand-dollar penalty if doctors don’t immediately place surviving babies in a hospital and perform accepted standards of medical practice. The measure will be up for debate by the full House as early as tomorrow.
