ND Considering Bill Limiting Transgender Athletes

(Bismarck, ND) — North Dakota lawmakers are considering a bill that would ban transgender athletes for competing in sports under the gender they identify as. House 1298 supporters say this bill protects female athletes, but opponents call it an ‘attack’ on trans individuals in the state. Sponsor Brian Koppelman says the bill is directed at gender crossover in sports, but claims trans athletes aren’t targeted. If passed, the bill would bar any ‘individual assigned the opposite sex at birth to participate on an athletic team’ exclusively for males or females.
