Bill Protecting “Dark Money” Advances In Legislature

(Pierre, SD) — Bills that would protect the privacy of donors to non-profits and charitable trusts have advanced in the state legislature. Governor Kristi Noem supports the bills which critics have said also allow for so-called dark money to be given to political campaigns. Supporters say it protects the identity of individuals and groups that want to support causes without fear of harassment but critics say it prevents the public from knowing who benefits from dark money. One such bill has already passed the House. Yesterday, a companion bill passed a Senate committee.
