SD Senators Vote For Acquittal

(Washington, DC) — Senators Mike Rounds and John Thune are among those who voted to acquit former President Trump during his second impeachment trial. The South Dakota Republicans both cited their beliefs that the proceedings were unconstitutional as the main reason for their votes. Thune noted that his vote “should not be viewed as an exoneration” of Trump and his role in the insurrection last month at the Capitol. The final Senate vote was 57 to 43 to convict Trump, below the vote threshold needed for a conviction.
