Voluntary Beef Checkoff Bill Fails

(Bismarck, ND) — A bill intended to make the state beef checkoff payments voluntary has failed. The bill would have made the one dollar beef checkoff paid to the state Beef Commission voluntary for local producers. Producers pay a dollar a head check for all beef sold in the U.S. and an additional dollar per head to the state Beef Commission. The checkoff payments are refundable for producers.
