Record-breaking cold temperatures are putting a strain on the electrical grid leading Public Utilities Commission Chairman Chris Nelson to tweet yesterday that residents should “reduce electricity consumption.” Xcel Energy and Sioux Valley Energy haven’t reported any power outages. Record low temperatures from the same weather system in Texas are causing widespread rolling outages.
