Cold WX Causes Saltwater Spill In McKenzie County

(McKenzie County, ND) — Cold weather is responsible for a saltwater spill at an injection site in McKenzie County. The North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality says the spill happened last Thursday. Samson Oil and Gas USA estimate that a thousand barrels of the fluid spilled at the Mays 1-20H injection well. Some also leaked into rangeland six miles southwest of Alexander. Officials say frozen water led to the equipment cracking and the fluid escaping from a tank.
