Senate Committee Rejects Bill Banning Transgender Girls From Playing Girls Sports

(Pierre, SD) — The Senate State Affairs committee is rejecting a bill that would have barred transgender girls and women from playing girls sports. Senators have the opportunity to revive the bill through a procedure call a “smoke out.” Senator Helene Duhamel voted to kill the bill, saying the issue affects few South Dakotans and could cause problems with constitutional challenges, economics, tourism, and lawsuits.
