(Bismarck, ND) — A House bill is being considered that is meant to limit the participation of transgender athletes in sports. The bill would prevent athletes under 18 from competing in sports for any sex other than the one listed on their birth certificate. It would also ban publicly owned facilities from hosting events where transgender athletes might participate. Amendments are being proposed that are intended to ease concerns of youth supports and tourism advocates. One change would allow the sponsorship of such events by local marketing organizations. Another would permit the state or publicly funded entity to rent or lease a facility for events where transgender athletes might participate.
