Legislature Fails To Overturn Noem Veto

(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota lawmakers are back to the drawing board after the Legislature failed to overturn Governor Kristi Noem’s veto of a ban on transgender athletes competing in sports. The House bill was aimed at making it illegal for transgender women and girls to compete in sports designated for women and girls. Noem disagreed with a provision that included collegiate sports in the bill. She has established two executive orders instructing the Department of Education to create policies that prevent transgender women and girls from competing against women and girls in non co-ed sports.
