(Bismarck, ND) — North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum is not signing the controversial Transgender Sports bill. Burgum vetoed the measure yesterday that would have banned anyone under 18 from playing on gendered sports teams that don’t match their original birth certificate. The governor says no such incidents have been recorded in the state. A leader in the North Dakota Human Rights Coalition says the bill faced major opposition from multiple private sector entities and called the veto a victory. The state House has enough votes to override the veto, but that’s not the case in the state Senate.
