Tribal President Glad Rushmore Fireworks Denied

(Rapid City, SD) — President Kevin Killer of the Oglala Sioux Tribe is glad a permit for a fireworks celebration at Mount Rushmore for Independence Day has been denied. Killer commended the decision by Secretary of Interior Deb Haaland, thanking her for “considering input from local tribal nations.” Governor Kristi Noem said last week that she is suing the Biden administration over the denied permit. Noem said yesterday at a tourism conference at Mount Rushmore that she’s disappointed about not being able to have the celebration for the second year in a row.
