Burgum Shutting Off Tap On Additional Unemployment Assistance

(Bismarck, ND) — Governor Doug Burgum is pulling the state out of participation in federally-backed COVID-19 unemployment assistance programs. The state will return to its usual way of handling unemployment assistance on June 19th. State leaders say North Dakota needs to build its work force, and hope ending the state’s participation in the expanded assistance will help. The governor’s office says there were over 16-thousand job openings in April.
