(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota is ending the 2021 budget year over 80-million dollars ahead. Governor Kristi Noem announced the surplus yesterday, saying the state had revenues that beat projections and lower than budgeted expenses. Noem says South Dakota’s economy remained open during the pandemic, creating a strong financial position in the state. Federal stimulus funds also supported the state’s COVID-19 response and offset millions in operational expenses.
