Crash Victim’s Psychiatric Records Sought

(Pierre, SD) — The judge in Jason Ravnsborg’s trial is officially requesting psychiatric records for crash victim Joe Boever. The judge issued letters to several hospitals and clinics Tuesday requiring that they release any records indicating Boever’s psychiatric state. Ravnsborg’s attorney filed a motion earlier this month requesting the information, indicating part of the attorney general’s defense will focus on whether Boever was suicidal on the night of the September 2020 crash. The attorney general is facing three misdemeanor traffic charges for hitting Boever, none of which implicates him as criminally responsible for the death.
