>>Officials: Anthrax Reported In North Dakota Cattle
(Fargo, ND) — A case of anthrax has been confirmed in North Dakota cattle. The state’s Agriculture Department says it is in a Kidder County beef herd. A few anthrax cases are reported each year in North Dakota, with two confirmed last year. Some years there are outbreaks like in 2005, when officials say more than one-thousand cows were killed by the illness. Anthrax is caused by bacterial spores that can be dormant in the ground for decades, but become active during drought.
