Group Wants Resignations After Tribal References Removed From Standards

(Pierre, SD) — A group wants Governor Kristi Noem, South Dakota Department of Education Secretary Tiffany Sanderson, and other officials to resign. South Dakota Education Equity Coalition is calling for the resignations after the DOE removed over a dozen references to the Oceti Sakowin from social studies standards released a month ago. Over 200 marchers and horse riders drummed and traveled across Pierre yesterday in the Oceti Sakowin March for our Children. Public hearings on the standards will start next week in Aberdeen, and the group wants Indigenous history education included.
