Senator Rounds Introducing Legislation To Help Tribes Bring Back Bison Herds

(Washington, DC) — Senator Mike Rounds is introducing legislation that would help tribes bring back bison herds. South Dakota’s Rounds and New Mexico Senator Martin Heinrich introduced the Indian Buffalo Management Act this week as part of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee. The bill would create a permanent buffalo management program and make around 14-million dollars available to tribes and tribal organizations to create and sustain an American buffalo herd. The president of the InterTribal Buffalo Council says the bill will help expand tribal sovereignty while healing the Native population and reviving Native culture.
