Cruz Wins Clemente Award

(Houston, TX) — Former Minnesota Twins designated hitter Nelson Cruz was named the winner of the 2021 Roberto Clemente Award. The award is given to the player who “best represents the game of baseball both on and off the field.” Cruz hit .265 with 32 home runs and 86 RBI this season. Off the field, he funded a police station and clinic, and he donated supplies and financial assistance to his hometown in the Dominican Republic. Cruz began the 2021 season with Minnesota before being traded to the Tampa Bay Rays in July.
