Top Democrat Leaving ND Senate Because Of Redistricting

(Bismarck, ND) — North Dakota Senate Minority Leader Joan Heckaman is leaving the legislature when her term ends in 2022 because of redistricting. Her area of Eddy County in District 23 was reapportioned to District 14 during the process carried out during a special session this fall. The population change in District 14 as a result of redistricting wasn’t enough to trigger an election for the district’s seats. Redistricting happened this year as a response to 2020 census results.
