(Sioux Falls, SD) — Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 have pushed healthcare facilities to near capacity across South Dakota. Currently, they say only about 30 percent of hospital beds are available, while ICU beds are slightly lower at 29 percent of capacity. Yesterday, more than 27-hundred additional cases were confirmed, and another two-thousand active infections brought total active infections to more than 22-thousand-740. The omicron variant is infecting children as well as adults. Yesterday, the state recorded its first death of a child nine years of age and younger due to the virus. Doctors say the peak of the omicron variant wave could still be weeks away.
