House Republicans Split On Workforce Housing Package

(Pierre, SD) — House Republicans are split on the newest version of a workforce housing bill. Negotiations are continuing over the 200-million dollar proposal that would provide grants and loans to cover utility infrastructure costs in new housing developments. Objections by some Republicans led to failure of a bill that would have sent 150 million to the South Dakota Housing Development Authority for revolving loans to offset utility construction costs in new housing developments. A bill creating 50-million dollars in grants for housing-related utilities that would go through the Governor’s Office of Economic Development passed.
