(Sioux Falls, SD) — South Dakota’s first public/private, need-based scholarship is kicking off its pilot year. The Freedom Scholarship was designed to encourage students of all economic backgrounds to live and work in their home state after graduating from high school. With the help of several businesses in the state, the scholarship fund has more than 175-million dollars in commitments. During its pilot year, about five-million dollars will be distributed to 13 eligible state institutions.
