South Dakota Lawmakers Deadlocked Over Workforce Housing Initiative

(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota lawmakers appear to be deadlocked over a 200 million dollar workforce housing bill initiated by Governor Kristi Noem. The state House failed yesterday by one vote on its third attempt to reach the two-thirds majority needed to pass the bill. A separate bill that allocates the money from both federal COVID-19 recovery dollars and the state’s general fund to the issue is still in play and may be Noem’s best choice for moving the initiative forward.
