Bismarck, Mandan Authorities Warning Of Increased Opioid Overdoses

(Bismarck, ND) — Bismarck and Mandan authorities are warning about an increase in the number of opioid overdoses in the area. Police and Metro Area Ambulance crews say the jump appears to be related to fentanyl-laced opiates. Bismarck police responded to over 130 overdoses in 2021, an 81-percent increase since 2020. Police say Narcan was administered in nearly all of the cases, but is becoming less effective. Fentanyl is 30 to 50 times more powerful than heroin, with a lethal dose amounting to as small as a few grains of the substance.
