(Rapid City, SD) — South Dakota wildland officials are encouraging land owners to fully extinguish their brush piles. Wildland Fire Director Jay Esperance says the warmer the weather gets, the better chance of brush piles reigniting. He says it’s important to closely monitor them and ensure they’re fully extinguished. If a controlled burn turns into a wildland fire, the landowner or permit holder could be responsible for costs to put it out.
