Bystander Helps Bismarck Officer Subdue Attacker

(Bismarck, ND) — Authorities say an Army veteran and former member of law enforcement helped subdue a suspect who attacked a Bismarck police officer. The attack happened Monday morning after the officer spoke to 34-year-old Christopher Fonseca, who was bothering passengers waiting in the security line. When the officer followed up with Fonseca, he began hitting the officer in the face and body. Bystander Ron Elkins helped subdue Fonseca who was arrested. An affidavit says Fonseca was seen holding a box cutter and wearing brass knuckle rings on both hands at the time of the attack. He is charged with assault of a peace officer, reckless endangerment, carrying a concealed weapon, and criminal mischief.
