NPS Rejects Noem’s Request For Mount Rushmore Fireworks

(Pierre, SD) — The National Park Service is rejecting Governor Kristi Noem’s request for a 2022 Mount Rushmore Fireworks Celebration. Noem’s office was notified of the denial yesterday. This is the second year in a row that Noem’s request for fireworks at Mount Rushmore has been denied. The event would have taken place during an Independence Day celebration at the monument. The letter responding to the permit application stated that the fireworks are “viewed by multiple Tribes as an adverse effect to the traditional cultural landscape.”
