(Sioux Falls, SD) — The South Dakota correctional system is facing further study and investigation despite the end of the 2022 legislative session. Governor Kristi Noem says a study of the state prison system recommends 600 million dollars in changes. The Legislature’s Executive Board voted Monday to study state prison funding, along with juvenile justice and local county jails. South Dakota has 66 counties, with only 25 county jails.
