SD Sending Over 81 Million In Emergency Rental Assistance Back To Feds

(Pierre, SD) — Governor Kristi Noem is expressing her support for returning over 81-million dollars in Emergency Rental Assistance money to the federal government. A letter from Noem to the Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Treasury was released yesterday, and included Noem’s claim that South Dakota’s economy is the strongest in the country and that residents don’t need the aid. The U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis has ranked South Dakota as second in personal income growth, following Idaho. Noem says the state’s low cost of living and unemployment rate has made the emergency aid “simply not necessary.” Noem requested that the funds be directed to South Dakota tribes in need of assistance.
