Twins Name Ryan As Opening Day Starter

(Fort Myers, FL) — The Minnesota Twins have chosen their Opening Day starting pitcher. Rookie Joe Ryan will get the nod when the Twins host the Mariners on April 7th, becoming the first Twins rookie to start the season’s first game since Tom Hall in 1969. Ryan was acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays at the trade deadline last season in a deal that sent Nelson Cruz to St. Petersburg. Ryan made five September starts for Minnesota last season, going 2-and-1 with a 4.05 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 26-and-two-thirds innings.
