Noem Signs K-12 CRT Teaching Ban

(Pierre, SD) — Governor Kristi Noem is acting on her own to prevent the teaching of Critical Race Theory in schools. Noem signed an executive order yesterday banning the teaching of the theory in South Dakota’s K though 12 schools. The executive order gives the Secretary of Education until July 1st to review all policies, guidelines, websites, materials, programs, and content standards to ensure that are in compliance with the order. The move follows a failed bill in the state Senate that would have enacted the same practice. A bill did reach Noem’s desk to ban the teaching of CRT in South Dakota’s public higher education institutions, which she signed.
