SDEA President Calls CRT Executive Order “Chilling”

(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota Education Association President Loren Paul is calling an executive order banning the teaching of critical race theory in K though 12 schools “chilling.” Paul says the order is a distraction from other issues in education that need to be discussed and that it sends “the wrong message to educators.” Governor Kristi Noem signed the order this week, that requires the Department of Education to review all standards, content, program, and education materials by July 1st and report to the governor whether they are in compliance. Any content promoting what the governor calls “divisive concepts” would have to be revised by October 1st.
