(Rapid City, UT) — When an event billed as a showcase for Native American talent in Rapid City this weekend was nearly canceled because the original promoter dropped out, a local non-profit stepped up to sponsor it. The original event called Akisa 2022 was scheduled to be held at the Rushmore Mall. The mall canceled its involvement after the promoter allegedly failed to fulfill his financial commitment. Rapid City nonprofit the NDN Collective then stepped in to hold the Rapid Skillz Athletic Complex event on Saturday. The nonprofit says it paid for the event from its budget.
