SD Senate Adopts Rules For Ravnsborg Trial

(Pierre, SD) — The South Dakota Senate is moving forward with its official rules for the impeachment trial of state Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg. The Senate voted 30 to zero yesterday to form itself into a court of impeachment before recessing until the June 21st trial date. The adopted rules will allow four hours for defense attorney Mike Butler to present his case, with unlimited time if Ravnsborg testifies. Butler had requested seven hours for both sides, but was denied. The state House voted earlier this month to impeach Ravnsborg on two counts related to his actions in connection with a September 2020 crash that killed pedestrian Joe Boever.
