(Rapid City, SD) — The Rapid City Area School District is waiting to decide if books pulled from its English 12 reading list should be destroyed. The board met yesterday and decided against taking any action on the issue. District officials say the removal of the books from the reading list was agreed on by building administrators and the Director of Teaching, Learning, and Innovation because of their content. One of the English teachers spoke at the board meeting, saying that the books are brand-new and were purchased last year as part of a senior-level library that students in the course could choose from. The president of South Dakota Parents Involved in Education spoke out against the content of the books, calling them divisive.
