(Pierre, SD) — The Board of Education Standards may adopt new rules banning the use of “inherently divisive concepts” in academic content standards. The latest Register published by the Legislative Research Council says the board is considering the move at its next meeting. The new rules would reflect Governor Kristi Noem’s executive order barring such topics from required curriculum. A bill that would have banned the teaching of critical race theory in K through 12 schools failed in the legislature in the spring. A similar bill for higher education passed.
