(Rapid City, SD) — The National Purple Heart Convention is being held in the Black Hills. The Department of the Dakotas is hosting the 89th annual event in its first time ever in the Midwest. The convention hosts meetings to discuss legislation and financial issues that affect the everyday lives of the combat veterans it honors. Department of the Dakotas Purple Heart division commander Connie Johnson says wounded veterans dead with many issues unique to their situation. Johnson says conventions are a place where those who have earned Purple Heart medals can discuss local and national issues. The convention will run through Thursday.
